The movie, Savages, is based on the New York Times best-selling novel of the same name by Don Winslow and is directed by Oliver Stone. This all star ensemble features Blake Lively, Salma Hayek, Benicio Del Toro, John Travolta, Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, and Demian Bichir-which equals an enticing movie experience. Savages is the story of a young woman, and the story of her two loves – the story of romance, the story of friendship, and the story of survival.
To be hypnotized from the beginning of the movie by the simplicity of an articulate story is not an occurrence that happens often, however this is what happened when Savages began. The movie begins with Ophelia, one of the main characters, telling her story; which is of her two loves and what her loves do for a living and the consequences that come with it. It is a peaceful lifestyle that works for them, until the Mexican Baja Cartel moves northbound. Once the Mexican cartel wants something, it is best to take the first offer and not think about it; otherwise you might be on the wrong end of regret. The storyline flows from beginning to end, without any awkward scenes that leave the audience confused or wondering what happened. The characters were believable and showed the right balance of humanity and fierceness.
This movie will keep you on your toes, it will leave wondering what is going to happen next and it will make you think about the definition of savages. Taking place on the California coast line the cinematography is picturesque, the acting is believable and the intensity of the action scenes will leave you leaning on the edge of your seat. A film with a storyline that will leave you completely engrossed waiting for what will happen next; this movie is a must see. Savages is a must see for anyone who enjoys action, drama, and good movies.
