Movie Review – Blue Like Jazz

Blue Like Jazz turned out to be a pretty good movie. When the film starts, we are introduced to recent high-school graduate, Don. He has left his pious home without his parent’s permission to enroll in the secular public co-ed college. As you can imagine, he starts to experience new things around every corner. Especially when his religion is questioned, which in turn is questioning his entire life.

He goes above and beyond to hide his Christian life because he feels his classmates will not accept him. Throughout the film, Don alienates his family and his friends only for his life to come back full circle. The point of this film is that Don was running from himself and his old life, but that means he was running from himself. The only way to be successful in life is to not forget who you are.
