Crates’ Remix Fundamentals Volume 1 features 11 great remixes from Neo-Soul artist, Jill Scott. This remix album has the subtitle, “Spring Summer Feeling.” I can see that. All of the songs are remixed in the dance music genre. If you are an avid R&B and Neo-Soul listener, it will sound a bit foreign. I assume lovers of this album would be any dance music head. Not so much for the common Jill Scott fan. Totally not what she is used to making. But the upside to that is since they are remixes of songs Jill Scott fans have heard before, you may be able to get into it. Don’t get me wrong, the album is solid. Production great. Just most people categorize artists and this is not a normal Jill Scott thing. I don’t see it mattering much though becase she is just the muse and inspiration. Crates has done her justice.
What I’m curious to know is since this is the first volume, will the upcoming volumes be all dance music? This is not Hidden Beach’s first shot at recording remixes for Jill Scott. They produced a few others in the past. They have a host of mixtapes for purchase. You can check them out online anytime at www.hiddenbeach.com. As regards to Crates’ Remix Fundamentals Volume 1, it’s a great listen.
