Spoken ReasonsTwo words: Spoken Reasons. For those who are unfamiliar with Spoken Reasons, you should become real familiar with him and his work. This young talented man is going somewhere. Spoken Reasons, the YouTube sensation, poet, comedian, musician, and now actor, is starring in his first movie, The Heat which also stars Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. So what is the big deal, you ask? Well one would say it is a big deal when you go from the camera on the laptop to the BIG screen cameras. Yep, I’m talking  about Hollywood! This is Spoken Reasons claim to fame, but it all started with his spoken words.

Jackie: I read in an article you said: “Everything that comes out of your mouth has a living purpose.” To me this means that not only are your words powerful, they can determine your future. Are your words doing what you want them to do when you claimed the name Spoken Reasons?

Spoken Reasons: Of course. Before I started doing poetry, I came up with a name, and it was my name…Spoken Reasons. I said to myself, I didn’t want to be an entertainer that had material without a purpose or reason. That’s why I created my brand FCHW or Faith, Consistency and Hard Work.  I wanted my material to not hurt people but to bring people up. You know—I put out a lot of content that offends people. At the same time, that requires people to think twice because there is always a message behind everything I do.

Jackie: I was surprised to hear you say in an interview that you were introverted as a child. When did you become more outspoken?

Spoken Reason: Where did you hear that from?

Jackie: I saw that in an interview you did with a popular station in New York City.

Spoken Reason: Ohh! Ok ok. What about it?

Jackie: I heard you were more introverted as a child.

Spoken Reasons: Yea I was.

Jackie: When did you become more outspoken?

Spoken Reasons: I became more outspoken when I got to college.  During my whole childhood a played basketball, baseball, and football. I was a class clown, but I was the guy who was quiet in the classroom. But if I opened up my mouth it was going to be something stupid! Then I would get kicked out the class…I was that guy! So I didn’t sing. I didn’t sing. I didn’t do anything. No one knew I was a comedian. All of my classmates are surprised right now. They see me as someone else, but truth be told, I have always been the same person I just never let it out. It took me going to college. There was this girl I was with, she told me to get more sneakers. I was wearing the same sneakers for about, emmm…two years. I didn’t have the money to buy more sneakers. So I sat in my room for about a week, and that’s when Spoken Reasons came out.

Jackie: Have you run into that same girl now?

Spoken Reasons: Umm…I ran into her about a year ago.

Jackie: What does she think of you now?

Spoken Reasons: Umm…I don’t know what she thinks of me. She follows me on Instagram, but I don’t follow her.

Jackie: I read in the Cultural Climax interview a couple of years back, you didn’t want to broadcast your poetry publicly because you were sensitive about your art. Since then you have broadcast several spoken words including two of my personal favorites, “Marriage” and “May Be the Last Time.” What made you change your mind?

The Heat (the movie)Spoken Reasons: I wanted people to take me more serious. You know. I didn’t want to be the comedian who walks outside and at least take me serious. I feel like when people see comedians walk outside they say “hey you’re that funny guy. Crack me a joke!” And I’m like, “no you crack me a joke!”  Sometimes I don’t feel like smiling today. I’m a person. A lot of people have big misconceptions about celebrities and stuff like that. I want people to know that I am just a person. You know? I blew up for being me. I put out my content just for being me. The same person you see on the screen is the same person you see now. I want to make sure they know that when you run into me, you might catch me being a comedian or poetic, roses are red mood. You never know. So that’s why I put my poetry out on the internet.

Jackie: Last question. What role do you play in your new movie The Heat?

Spoken Reasons: The role that I play…if you have ever seen the movie Blue Streak specifically the role that Dave Chappell played? That’s pretty much my role in this film. It’s more like a gangster, but he realizes being a gangster is not for him. He is smarter than what he is or chooses to do. I play the character Terrell. He is the comedic, funny, gangster type of guy. At the same time, he has more potential to do better.

Unfortunately, I ran out of time interviewing Spoken Reasons. But if I had enough time, I am sure he would still say his famous statement: “I ain’t ish…yet!” In short, go and see the new movie The Heat June 28th.  It is starring actors like Sandra Bullock, Melissa McCarthy, and the ever so funny, Spoken Reasons.
