There are three top smart phones markets that are dominating the cell phone manufacturing world: iPhone, Samsung, and HTC. These are undoubtedly the most common smart phones from top cell phone carriers like AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. But who is the mastermind behind this popular phone? Cher Wang (that’s right, a Taiwanese woman) is the co-founder and creator for HTC smart phones. Forbes magazine ranked her as number 613 on the Billionaires list. Young Urban Life ranks her as number four on our Women’s Billionaire list.
In 1997, Cher Wang co-founded the HTC Corporation as a maker of notebook computers. However, the real origins of this company emerged when the organiztion shift their attention from notebook computers to hand-held devices. With the help of her husband, Wenchi Chien, Wang was able to create one of the world’s first smart phones powered by Microsoft in 2003. In 2011 HTC reached an all time high in sales with report revenues of $138.82 billion dollars.
From the outside looking in, Miss Wang has it all: money, fame, and CEO of her HTC billion dollar empire. However, she does not let those titles overpower her mind. Wang is a strong believer in her christian faith. Her success did not come with hard work and dedication alone. She believes her relationship with God is the reason for her success.
Despite HTC phone decline in sales against top competitors like Samsung and the iPhone (an average of a 41 percent loss in profit sales for the year 2012), Wang continues to move forward. Being apart of a high-tech competitive market she is always on the look out for the next big thing.
The future looks very prosperous for Cher Wang. Her latest project introduces the eastern Pacific region to new HTC Flyer tablets. According to CNET, Wang plans on donating 100,000 HTC Flyer tablets in the Asia Pacific region. This tablet helps is made for women in support for equal participation in political and commercial opportunities. In addition, Wang is working on creating computers small enough to be carried in pockets. The release date for this new invention has not yet been released.
No wonder why this particular smart phone brand was the first smart phone that I have ever owned! To Cher Wang: one of the world’s most powerful woman billionaires.
