Movie Review: World War Z

Picture this: FREE tickets to see World War Z, starring Brad Pitt!!!

Now the line was quite lengthy but the wait was worth it because it was BRAD PITT starring in the movie, right? Right! Okay, so finally the ticket master scans your free pass and directs you to a seat in a theater filled to capacity. Then out of nowhere, the crowd applauds and gives a standing ovation before the movie even begins! Why is this you ask? Because Brad Pitt walks in!

Suddenly, the room silences as he begins to talk about the movie, describing it as one of “the most intense movies you will see all summer.” Keeping his synopsis of the movie short, Mr. Pitt thanks his audience for coming, introduces the movie and exits the theater. Now that’s a good looking actor on and off the screen.

World War Z is based on the same titled book, World War Z, written by Max Brooks. Directed by Marc Forster, World War Z shows ex-united nation Gerry Lane—played by Brad Pitt—trying to find a way to stop the zombie disease from spreading, destroying people and corrupting their governments. Gerry Lane, who was one of the best UN workers in his time, is forced to reunite with government again to solve the unknown spread of the zombie disease. If he did not accept the mission, his family would be at risk of catching the disease. During his journey, Gerry receives important information from a prisoner (played by David Morse) and a doctor (Moritz Bleibtreu) that eventually leads him to the research center. It is here where he discovers a medicine that does not cure the disease, but instead, prevents the zombies from attacking them.  Ultimately, this remedy keeps the deathly epidemic from spreading and saves the lives of those who are not yet infected by the zombie disease.

If you have seen the 2007 film I Am Legend starring Will Smith, one could find a lot of similar characteristics in the films story plots. Both movies stars attractive and leading actors. Both films deal with the end of the earth through unknown diseases that transforms humans into deathly and ill zombies. Both films find a way to deal with the disease in a way that protects the human race. World War Z ending is a little differently than I Am Legend, but overall, similar story lines. Out of five stars, I would rate it a three. This apocalyptic, intense, horror film shows in theaters everywhere June 21, 2013.
